FOOTWEAR & FOOT TYPE
Every customer that visits The Running Edge receives a free thorough evaluation to determine foot type and the most appropriate running of walking shoe. This process includes a free video gait analysis, if needed, to make certain that your chosen shoes are the best possible fit for your biomechanical needs. Also any recommendation or prescription from a podiatrist or physiotherapist is considered.
For the best evaluation it is recommended that the customer bring in their old running or walking shoes and to allow 30 to 45 minutes for their assessment and fitting. If necessary, appointments can be made.
We have footwear to cater for any foot type including neutral, stability and support shoes including running, walking, cross training, trail, performance, hockey, football and kids footwear.
Click on below links to read more on footwear type.
NEUTRAL
A neutral shoe will fit a person with an efficient gait and few biomechanical problems.
This type of shoe generally has a softer midsole for maximum cushioning and has no stability devices to reduce and control pronation the way a stability or support shoe would.
This shoe is suitable for those who have a normal to high arch.
STABILITY
For the person with mild to moderate overpronation that needs extra support.
Stability shoes have a medial post or firmer density under the inner edge of the foot that will reduce excessive foot motion.
This shoe is suitable for those who have a flat or low arch.
SUPPORT
For the excessive overpronator that needs the most control and cushioning.
Support running shoes are generally heavier but very durable. They offer maximum support on the inner side of the foot for those with extremely flat arches.
CROSS TRAINING
Ideal for the sportsperson who is doing cross lateral sports like tennis or netball but still goes running or walking.
Cross trainers generally have a more durable outsole, the perfect all rounder.
TRAIL
Built for the runner or walker who prefers the trail and needs a shoe that can handle it, suitable for unstable and aggressive surfaces.
The foot often sits slightly lower to the ground for stability and responsiveness and is generally more durable and water resistant. They can also be used for hockey.
PERFORMANCE
Performance running shoes are lightweight and responsive for racing and speed interval training.
They have less cushioning than normal running shoes and have more finetuned flexibility.
These shoes are suitable for athletes and road racing enthusiasts.
WALKING
Walking shoes provide the fit and feel of a running shoe with the technology and functions specific to fitness.
KIDS
We have a large range of kids running, cross training, football and school shoes with all the technical features of the adults shoes. Most of our range is suitable to accommodate orthotics.
